The Mercedes Glb Is Back as an Electric Suv and It’s Better in Just About Every Way

admin December 8, 2025

The automotive landscape is shifting rapidly, and Mercedes-Benz is at the forefront with the debut of the all-electric GLB. This latest iteration of the compact SUV not only replaces its gasoline counterpart but also aims to outshine the competition, particularly rivals like the Tesla Model Y. With a focus on performance, space, and cutting-edge technology, the new GLB EV is set to redefine expectations for electric SUVs.

From Gas to Electric: A Strategic Shift

The new Mercedes-Benz GLB has transitioned from a conventional gasoline-powered vehicle to a fully electric SUV, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s electrification strategy. According to Electrek, the GLB now exclusively launches as an electric vehicle, effectively phasing out both the previous gas-powered GLB and the EQB. Built on the advanced 800-volt Modular Architecture (MMA) platform, the GLB EV promises enhanced efficiency, faster charging, and a well-appointed interior.

Powertrains and Performance: A Dual Offering

The electric GLB comes with two powertrain options, both utilizing an 85 kWh lithium-ion battery pack:

  • GLB 250+ with EQ Technology: This variant features a rear-mounted motor delivering 268 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque (with a temporary boost to 335 lb-ft). It achieves 0-62 mph in 7.4 seconds, boasting a range of up to 631 km (392 miles) according to WLTP standards.
  • GLB 350 4MATIC with EQ Technology: This model adds a front motor for all-wheel drive, producing 349 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque, sprinting to 62 mph in just 5.4 seconds with a WLTP range of up to 614 km (381 miles).

On the EPA cycle, the estimated range is around 330 miles for the RWD version and slightly less for the AWD model. Furthermore, the 800-volt architecture supports DC fast charging of up to 320 kW, allowing the GLB to add approximately 260 km (161 miles) of range in just 10 minutes at a compatible charger.

Interior Space: Designed for Families

While the new GLB retains a boxy silhouette similar to its predecessor, it boasts significant improvements in interior space. Key enhancements include:

  • A longer wheelbase and redesigned roofline that increase headroom in both rows.
  • Improved second-row legroom, making it more comfortable for adult passengers.
  • Configurations for five or seven seats, with the latter accommodating up to four child seats across the second and third rows.

These thoughtful design choices make the GLB EV an attractive option for families seeking versatility and comfort.

Technology and Infotainment: Cutting-Edge Features

The electric GLB showcases Mercedes’ latest design language with a standout illuminated grille featuring 94 animated LED chrome stars. The interior is equally impressive, highlighted by the optional MBUX Superscreen, which spans over 38 inches across the dashboard and includes:

  • A 10.25-inch driver display.
  • A 14-inch central touchscreen.
  • A 14-inch passenger display.

Running on Mercedes’ new MB.OS operating system, the MBUX system integrates AI capabilities from both Microsoft and Google for enhanced functionality and personalization.

Why This Matters in the EV Landscape

The launch of the all-electric GLB is significant not just for Mercedes but for the automotive industry as a whole. As more manufacturers pivot toward electric vehicles, the GLB sets a high bar for practicality, performance, and technology in the compact SUV segment. This move reflects a broader trend toward electrification that is reshaping consumer expectations and market dynamics.

With prices and further details expected to be revealed closer to launch, the electric GLB could very well become a benchmark for other luxury electric SUVs. Its combination of range, space, and advanced technology positions it as a compelling choice for eco-conscious consumers looking for a family-friendly vehicle.
