China Sets New Standards: Yangwang U7, Nio Es8, and Luxeed R7 Certified as Intelligent Chassis Benchmarks

admin December 25, 2025

The automotive landscape in China is evolving rapidly with the certification of three vehicles as benchmarks in intelligent chassis technology. The Yangwang U7, Nio ES8, and Luxeed R7 have received this distinction from the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute (CAERI), marking a significant milestone in the push for smarter, safer vehicles.

Understanding the Certification

CAERI’s recent report outlines a rigorous testing methodology involving over 20 technical metrics and 18 real-world test conditions. These evaluations include critical scenarios such as tire blowout responses, uphill starts, and emergency cornering. The focus is on dynamic stability, steering corrections, and active suspension performance, ensuring these vehicles can handle the unexpected with finesse.

Meet the Certified Vehicles

Yangwang U7

This high-performance sedan from BYD’s premium Yangwang brand is priced between 500,000–700,000 RMB (approximately $71,100–$99,600). The U7 is equipped with quad-motor technology and advanced active chassis options, showcasing exceptional dynamic stability and active suspension tuning.

Nio ES8

Positioned in the SUV market with a price range of 300,000–500,000 RMB ($42,700–$71,100), the Nio ES8 features the innovative SkyRide intelligent suspension system. Its design emphasizes comfort and safety, particularly during emergency braking and on uneven surfaces, making it a standout in CAERI’s assessment.

Luxeed R7

From Dongfeng’s Luxeed brand, this SUV falls within the 200,000–300,000 RMB ($28,500–$42,700) price bracket. The R7 excels in low-speed maneuverability and uphill stability, demonstrating a balance between comfort and performance, which was crucial for its certification.

Why This Matters

The certification of these vehicles is more than just a badge of honor; it represents a pivotal shift in the automotive industry. With the intelligent chassis market projected to skyrocket from 10.6 billion RMB in 2019 to over 100 billion RMB by 2030, according to East Money, this initiative lays the groundwork for standardized testing and development across the sector.

CAERI’s introduction of eight new standards for intelligent chassis development aims to streamline the verification process for OEMs and suppliers. This not only enhances safety and performance but also fosters consumer trust in advanced automotive technologies.

The implications of these benchmarks extend into the supply chain and competitive landscape, where manufacturers focused on reliable by-wire systems may gain significant advantages. As the industry coalesces around these standards, consumers can expect a more transparent and comparable market for intelligent chassis solutions.
