Record-Breaking Performance

Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has set a new benchmark for February sales, delivering a staggering 52,407 domestic units in February 2026. This impressive figure represents a 9.8% increase compared to the 47,727 units sold in the same month last year. The total dispatches reached 66,134 units, marking a 12.6% year-on-year growth, including exports of 13,727 units, which surged by 24.8%.

This performance comes on the heels of a strong January, where Hyundai recorded 59,107 domestic units, showcasing the brand’s ongoing momentum. Tarun Garg, MD and CEO of HMIL, emphasized the significance of these numbers as the company approaches its 30th anniversary in India, highlighting its focus on enhancing connected technology accessibility for consumers.

Market Trends and Implications

The automotive landscape in India is rapidly evolving, with Hyundai’s growth reflecting broader market dynamics. The company now holds approximately 14.5% market share in the passenger vehicle segment, a significant position that underscores its competitive edge against rivals like Kia India, which reported sales of 27,610 units in February, a 10.3% increase.

Hyundai’s export growth is particularly noteworthy, with shipments to over 80 countries contributing significantly to its overall performance. This trend underlines India’s emerging role as a global auto hub, a sentiment echoed by industry experts. The demand for SUVs remains robust, accounting for approximately 60% of Hyundai’s sales, driven by popular models such as the Creta, which alone sold around 18,500 units in February.

Future Outlook

Looking ahead, the auto industry is expected to see 4-6% growth in passenger vehicles throughout 2026, bolstered by recovery in rural markets and pre-festive buying. Experts recommend that investors keep an eye on Hyundai’s market share against competitors like Tata and Mahindra, as these dynamics could shape future sales strategies.

Moreover, Hyundai is gearing up for the electric vehicle (EV) revolution, planning to introduce four new EVs by 2027, backed by a substantial investment of ₹25,000 crore. This strategic move aligns with global electrification trends, positioning Hyundai as a key player in the future of mobility in India.
