Foxconn’s Bold Move: Acquiring Luxgen to Accelerate EV Innovation

admin December 20, 2025

In a strategic push to enhance its presence in the electric vehicle (EV) market, Foxconn is set to acquire Taiwan’s Luxgen brand. This acquisition marks a significant step for the tech giant, traditionally known for its electronics manufacturing, as it deepens its commitment to EV production.

The Acquisition Details

Foxtron Vehicle Technologies, the joint venture between Foxconn and Yulon Motor, is acquiring 100% of Luxgen for T$787.6 million (approximately $25 million). Approved by both companies’ boards, the deal encompasses Luxgen’s operations, workforce, sales outlets, and dealer network. The transaction awaits the green light from the Taiwan Fair Trade Commission, with completion expected in the first quarter of 2026.

Why Luxgen Matters

Founded in 2009, Luxgen has been a key player in Taiwan’s automotive scene, focusing on passenger vehicles and SUVs, with a growing interest in electric models. Despite facing stiff competition from Japanese and Chinese automakers, Luxgen’s established local service infrastructure positions it well to complement Foxconn’s ambitions in the EV space. The acquisition will allow Foxtron to oversee all aspects of Luxgen’s product development, sales, and after-sales services, streamlining operations and enhancing efficiency.

Boosting EV Strategies

This move aligns with Foxconn’s broader strategy to become a leading player in the EV market. By integrating Luxgen, Foxtron will bolster its domestic value chain and leverage Taiwan’s strengths in semiconductor manufacturing for EV components. The company plans to utilize Luxgen’s existing frameworks to accelerate the development of its upcoming models, including the anticipated ‘Model B,’ which aims to cater to the growing demand for electric vehicles.

Market Context and Future Implications

As Taiwan’s government targets a significant increase in EV penetration—aiming for 20-30% by 2030—the acquisition comes at a pivotal time. Local brands will need to innovate and adapt to compete with international giants like Tesla and BYD. Foxconn’s investment in Luxgen not only reinforces its commitment to the EV sector but also highlights the potential for Taiwan to become a key player in the global EV supply chain.

This acquisition is a strategic alignment of technology and automotive capabilities that could reshape the Taiwanese EV landscape. As global shifts continue towards sustainable transportation, Foxconn’s enhanced role through Luxgen could set a new standard for innovation in the industry.
