Introducing the Exeed EX7

Chery has officially revealed the Exeed EX7, a striking mid-to-large electric SUV that promises to shake up the segment with its robust specifications. Recently confirmed through a regulatory filing by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), the EX7 features a 3,000 mm wheelbase and is equipped with a powerful 230 kW electric motor, underscoring its performance credentials ahead of its market launch.

Measuring 4,988 mm in length, 1,975 mm in width, and between 1,702 mm to 1,710 mm in height, the EX7 is designed to combine spaciousness with an imposing presence. This vehicle is expected to weigh approximately 2,230 kg, with a maximum permitted mass of 2,660 kg, signaling its capability for both comfort and utility.

Innovative Features and Design

The EX7’s design is characterized by a modern aesthetic that includes a simplified front end with a full-width daytime running light strip and vertically stacked headlights. At the rear, the full-width taillight design complements a sporty crossover-style bumper, creating a cohesive look that resonates with contemporary consumer preferences.

Inside, the EX7 boasts a technology-forward cockpit that features a 30-inch integrated display, merging the central control and passenger screens seamlessly. Additional highlights include a floating digital instrument cluster and zero-gravity front seats, which enhance comfort and usability, reflecting Exeed’s commitment to high-tech interiors.

Groundbreaking Braking Technology

One of the standout features of the Exeed EX7 is its pioneering electronic mechanical braking (EMB) system. This innovative technology replaces traditional hydraulic brake systems with electrically actuated units, significantly improving braking performance. According to reports, the EMB system can reduce emergency stopping distances from 62 mph to approximately 33.1 meters, highlighting a serious advancement in safety and efficiency.

This system marks a significant milestone, as the EX7 is touted as the world’s first mass-production vehicle to adopt such technology, positioning it ahead of competitors like the Li Auto L7 and Nio ES6. With brake response times measured in milliseconds, the EX7 sets a new standard for electric SUVs.

Powertrain Flexibility and Range Options

The EX7 offers a versatile powertrain strategy with multiple configurations. The base model features a single-motor rear-wheel-drive variant producing 230 kW. Additionally, a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version is expected to deliver a combined output of 353 kW, while a range-extended hybrid variant will utilize a 1.5L turbocharged engine as a generator.

  • Single-Motor Rear-Wheel Drive: 230 kW
  • Dual-Motor All-Wheel Drive: 353 kW
  • Range-Extended Hybrid (EREV): 182-203 km electric range

The battery technology relies on lithium-iron-phosphate cells from CATL, enabling the EX7 to achieve impressive CLTC-rated ranges of up to 726 km. This flexibility allows Exeed to cater to a wide range of customer needs, from daily commuting to long-distance travel.

Strategic Positioning in a Competitive Market

The launch of the EX7 marks Exeed’s entry into the large premium electric SUV segment, directly competing with established players in the market. Positioned above Chery’s mainstream offerings, the EX7 underscores Exeed’s ambition to capture the growing demand for technology-rich, electrified vehicles.

As part of Exeed’s broader 3.0 strategy, which includes plans for four additional models, the EX7 aims to solidify the brand’s presence in China’s rapidly evolving electric vehicle landscape. With domestic competitors rapidly advancing, the EX7 illustrates how Chinese automakers are innovating to meet consumer demand for both performance and technology.
