MG Motor is revving up excitement with the potential development of a hardcore ‘Superleggera’ version of its all-electric Cyberster. As the automotive landscape shifts towards electric sports cars, MG aims to keep its flagship model fresh in a competitive market.

Performance Specs and Design Innovations

The standard MG Cyberster, a sleek two-seater convertible, boasts impressive specifications with a 77 kWh lithium-ion battery and dual-motor all-wheel drive. It delivers a staggering 544 PS (536 hp) and 725 Nm of torque, rocketing from 0-100 km/h in just 3.2 seconds and reaching a top speed of 200 km/h. However, it weighs nearly two tonnes, prioritizing design features like scissor doors over agility.

According to MG’s vice president of global design, Jozef Kaban, the proposed Superleggera variant aims to strip down the Cyberster, focusing on weight reduction to enhance handling. Described as a “detox,” this model could transform the driving experience, shifting from a straight-line performer to a more dynamic sports car that competes with lighter rivals, such as the upcoming Alpine A110 EV, which weighs around 1,450 kg.

Special Editions as a Strategic Move

To maintain momentum for the Cyberster amidst rising competition from brands like Audi and Alpine, MG is exploring various special editions. UK product head David Allison emphasizes that unique aesthetics—ranging from bespoke paint colors to custom wheels—will help sustain interest in the model. For example, the Cyberster Black concept debuted at the 2025 Goodwood Festival of Speed, showcasing a striking deep black paint with a subtle sparkle, complemented by oversized chrome rims.

Additionally, the limited-edition Red Top Edition, released exclusively in China, celebrates MG’s centenary with its unique beige paint and red roof, further demonstrating MG’s commitment to creating visually distinct versions of the Cyberster.
